After much anticipation, the squad hit the ice in Pickering on Saturday the 16th and picked up an impressive 6-1 victory thanks to a relentless forecheck, responsible & strong defensive play, excellent goaltending and so many shots on goal that the Ajax-Pickering tender saw more rubber than a dead skunk on the Trans Canada Highway.

Coach McEvoy commended his team's commitment to keeping high levels of pressure on the puck, a strategy that created a handful of turnovers and great opportunities in the offensive zone. During the post game media scrum, McEvoy said “The boys didn’t stop with their forecheck. We were able to create wave after wave of offensive pressure that led to a lot of shots on goal for us. It was good to see the boys so hungry for the puck.”

Goalkeeping duties were shared by the electrifying duo of Willem Adamkowski and Max Shelswell. Both goalies brought agility, reflexes, and unwavering focus to turn away numerous shots and deny the opposition any real chance of mounting a comeback. The young netminders' remarkable performance earned the admiration of fans and teammates alike.  This reporter overheard the Zamboni driver remark, “Both of these North Durham goalies look sick.  Like, in a good way.”

The North Durham offense was spearheaded by the exceptional performance of William Low, who netted four (4!) goals in his North Durham debut. Low’s accurate and hard shots all found the back of the net like a laser. Low went on to win player of the game honours. Omar Schurter and Easton Carpentier picked up assists on Low’s goals. Wyatt Laird netted a gritty, grind-it-out tally after picking up a great pass from Zack Dawson on the point. Kyley Swain potted a beautiful 3rd period goal on a hard shot from in tight. Kid can stick handle in a phone booth.  Schurter picked up his 2nd apple on Swain’s goal.

As the final horn sounded, the old Don Beer Arena (Barn) erupted with cheers, celebrating North Durham's commanding 6-1 victory in the season opener. Coach McEvoy expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing that this win was just the start of what promises to be an exciting and successful season.  As he left the arena, he waved to the crowd and simply said, “Let’s roll.”

Come cheer on your North Durham All Stars who are representing the community with pride.  The line up includes: Willem Adamkowski (G), Cooper Andrews, Liam Beggs, Easton Carpentier, Zack Dawson, Malik Elgamal, Holden Geldart, James Griffith, Wyatt Laird, William Low, Cameron Martin, Bennett McEvoy, Callum O’Connor, Nathan Plesche, Omar Schurter, Max Shelswell (G), and Kyley Swain.
