Minor Development Hockey (MD)
North Durham Minor Hockey Association (NDMHA) is reviewing the opportunity to provide our members with a new programming option, MD Hockey. MD Hockey is No Body Checking and operates with Recreational programming in the OMHA.

We need to determine interest level in order to schedule tryouts. NDMHA proposes that we would consider U15 and U18 MD programming. These would be mixed aged teams unless we have new registration that would warrant no-mixed age programming at U14 and U16. This programming would replace AE programming from U14 and up.

MD Hockey is similar to Representative Hockey in that it is a team that a member participates with and
is the sole team that the member participates with. With a classification of Recreational programming
there is an allowance for Exhibition Games and Tournaments. We would also request permission to
participate in an organized “League”. Currently, the York Simcoe Minor Hockey League hosts an
organized structure which would require us to request OMHA and York Simcoe approval to participate.

NDMHA would need to ensure the structure of our Recreational programming remains unaffected.
NDMHA would need to evaluate registration numbers prior to finalizing entries in the MD division.

NDMHA will provide an information session (date/time TBD) and a method to register for this session so
we can gather numbers of interested individuals. This is an excellent opportunity for those who do not
wish to participate in Body Checking going into U14, and those that may have left NDMHA because of
the Body Checking at the Representative Level.

Minor Development (MD)

A Minor Development Team is a team from a AAA, AA or A centre comprised of players who are eligible by age and by residence for the Centre as per OMHA Residence Regulation 3.3.

Centres must register a representative team in minor and major divisions before being eligible to apply for a Minor Development Team in the same division.

Applications to register a Minor Development Team with the OMHA must be received by the OMHA by June 1st prior to the current playing season. Such application will only be accepted if the requirements of the Local and House League Regulations have been fulfilled.  A Centre registering Minor Development Teams wishing to participate in an organized Minor Development League must first receive permission in writing from the Regional Director or OMHA Convenor appointed to the League.

Minor Development Teams registered with the OMHA will be eligible to participate in sanctioned tournaments and exhibition games with other OMHA and approved teams Regulations 123 from affiliated members/branches of the OHF/Hockey Canada.

Minor Development Teams, in divisions U12 and above, will be permitted participation in a maximum of four (4) tournaments per season (Subject to Centre’s Regulations).  Permission to participate in exhibition games within the OHF must be obtained prior to participation via the OMHA Portal and approved by the Regional Director, appointed OMHA Area Convenor, or designate.  Permission to participate in exhibition games outside the OHF must be obtained from the OMHA Executive Director via the OMHA Portal prior to participation.  The application will not be approved until the Centre has submitted the applicable fee and an OMHA Electronic Roster has been approved.  Permission to participate in tournaments within the OMHA must be obtained prior to participation via the OMHA Portal and approved by the Regional Director, appointed OMHA Area Convenor, or designate.  Permission to participate in tournaments outside the OMHA must be obtained from the OMHA Executive Director prior to participation via the OMHA Portal. The application will not be approved until the Centre has submitted the applicable fee.

Minor Development teams shall be permitted affiliation per OMHA Regulation 7.0.
